Anna Frehiwot Maconi

Research Intern

Anna Frehiwot Maconi is a research intern at the City Science Lab at HafenCity University Hamburg. She holds a degree in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Asian and African Studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Her research interests include migration, diaspora, questions of belonging in urban spaces, as well as the relationship between modernity and heritage in East Africa. In her master’s research, she focuses on the impact of the Addis Ababa Urban Corridor Project on the city’s cultural heritage. She presented preliminary findings from this research at the Global Exchange Café Series, “From Dunhuang to the Aegean Sea: Global and Digital Perspectives on Cultural Heritage Conservation” at Peking University.
